THIS is why I will always love Ed Sheeran, even when most of his stuff is just waaaaay too light for me. Check it out at 2:40 when he goes right into Tinie Tempah's Pass Out. =DDD

Rizzle Kicks is touring with Professor Green; I wish I could be there. =/ ONE DAY I WILL SEE THEM LIVE. ONE DAY.

BUT! I will, at least, be seeing SIX CONCERTS within the 11 days right after I get back to NYC from Indonesia. I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED. Here's what that looks like:

Mon 10/24 - return to NYC mid-day
Tue 10/25 - sew Halloween costume?
Wed 10/26 - sew Halloween costume?
Thu 10/27 - P!ATD in Clifton Park with [livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan
Fri 10/28 - New Found Glory in NYC with [livejournal.com profile] thedreamerworld
Sun 10/30 - recover from said party, likely with hangover
Mon 10/31 - P!ATD in DC with [livejournal.com profile] sansets
Tue 11/01 - lol, possibly sleep all day?
Wed 11/02 - Empires in NYC with Katie & [livejournal.com profile] la_dissonance?
Thu 11/03 - P!ATD in Philly with Katie and [livejournal.com profile] chaneen
Fri 11/04 - dubstep!KORN in NYC with ???

Sun 11/06 - RESIGN MYSELF TO A FUTURE WITHOUT FUN to make up for all the fun I just had... and also the money I need to save seeing as how I'm JOBLESS.

Mon 11/07 - Hahah, hopefully interviews for potential jobs I will have contacted in the previous two weeks?

*I don't even like P!ATD this much, I'm just suuuuuper excited to see the shows with friends! Also: SPENCERRRRRRRRRRRRRR. (But thank fuck I'm ending my wannabe-groupie-endeavor on a bass-heavy dubstep note!)

So I was trying to get to sleep EARLY (midnight) since I had to wake up at the CRACK OF DAWN (7:30am) in order to meet Juliet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 8:45. They open at 9:30 and really, it's a good thing we got there when we did because by the time the line started moving it stretched down the block and doubled back a few times. Haha, if I felt left out and missing Otakon this past weekend, this line certainly made me feel like I was there for a little while.

Anyway, I was trying to get to sleep early, but really I should know better by now that I just can't. Instead I customized my screensaver and proceeded to take a few screencaps to make into a gif. (Yes, I'm we know I'm obsessed already, this is old news.)

And now for the few additional A Softer World Remixes I've done since I last posted. The last one was done for @15dozentimes; it's totally my favorite, and not it's not even one I'd ever have thought of/chosen to do myself. So yeah, pass any requests my way. These are fun and ridiculously easy to do with my somewhat limited skills. =D

some geekery, some half-naked drunken shenanigans, some molesting of innocent blow up deer... oh yeah, and angst (that's my fave). =D )

This is totally random, but I somehow naturally associate Avenged Sevenfold and Panic! At the Disco. This is really interesting because I was just recently thinking I should listen to more AX7 (while listening to P!ATD).... and then I realized that I did the same back in 2006 when I first heard them both.

I know it's just a pipe dream, but-- what I'd give for P!ATD's next album to have a harder sound. *__* (Jesus fuck, Spencer Smith would be even hotter and sweatier than he already is...?!)

I decided to do this 30 days meme that I'm seeing all over fbook because I haven't posted anything for like a week and a half now, and it feels really weird. I've got a lot of things sort of simmering underneath the surface and I'm mostly holding everything in, which, yeah I know-- not the best way to deal with things. But I'm finding it difficult to post about anything that means anything to me-- not even about how squeeful I feel over Merlin fandom and how I've been devouring fic like Cookie Monster devours cookies.

I will apologize in advance for spamming your flist, considering I don't usually post this much... but having said that, I BY NO MEANS guarantee that I'll actually remember to do this every day, ahahaha.

30 days list )

All posts will be under the meme:music tag.

As a bonus, I think I'll add in my favorite line from each song.

my trance-like state this week )

last week's music stuff, including the many times i was full of rage and wanted to punch people )

Um. Yeah. I just started typing and this all came out.

In thoughts completely unrelated and somewhat happier-- did everyone get to see the Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother short film with Tom Hardy waggling his dick around? And yes, I mean that literally. He waggled it. Like eyebrows. CUTEST. THING. EVER. The video is no longer available on YouTube, of course, and at the time I thought I should save the video to my hd but I didn't do it because I had to run and now it's too late. If you have a copy, please send it my way-- there are people I need to show it to!

OLD NEWS: JGL has been confirmed as Alberto Falcone for TDKR and I will HAPPILY DEVOUR ALL THE BANE/FALCONE FANFIC (and variations thereof) EVER. Basically, GIVE ME ALL THE SERIAL KILLER FIC. ALL OF IT. I'm excited for the possibilities, but I'm also content to wait til 2012 for the explosion. As I'm barely keeping afloat as it is, juggling a million and one Inception WIPs and trying to explore Merlin fic. GDI Merlin fandom, stop being so awesome.

ETA2: Good recs and best description of dubstep (at bottom): http://www.side-line.com/forum/threads.php?id=37198_0_20_0_C
osaraba: (merlin arthur chillaxing)
OH MY GOD PEOPLE, sorry this list is so long! This is stuff I've been meaning to rec from like, 1-2 weeks ago (in no particular order):
SHERLOCK (John/Sherlock)

lasjdflsjalfjslfjdlsjfsld I happened to refresh my flist right as [livejournal.com profile] wordstrings was posting A Thousand Threads of What-Might-Have-Beens, so I was like Part 1! ASLDFJASLJFLSDJF YAY! Where's part 2? *waits a few minutes* *refreshes* OMG THERE'S PART TWO AND THREEEEEE!

And then I punched myself and died because I realized I wouldn't be able to read it until I got back from Toronto. But as usual, it is amazing. In some ways slightly angstier than the others in the series, but also somehow more lighthearted. I don't know how, but that's the impression I left with.

If you haven't already read the rest of the stories in this series, start working your way through her master post.

MERLIN (all Arthur/Merlin)
  1. A New Low by Anon. Full of humor! The OP asked for diabetic!Merlin and anon delivered so sweetly (pun intended). Lighthearted and delightful. <3

  2. IF YOU DON'T READ Anon's Pairing Pendragon/Merlin YOU JUST MIGHT REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR FANNISH LIFE. Arthur is a BNF and Merlin is his beloved beta. Basically, this is so fucking meta that the comments on the original kinkmeme format felt like they were part of the fic itself. I just about bust a fucking gut laughing at this, people, so just go read it.

  3. [livejournal.com profile] skellerbvvt's 8x12x8 (Parts 1 2 3 4 5 6). Not so much an AU as a what if -- What if Arthur had been imprisoned (from birth, practically) by Uther as a response to his guilt over Igraine, rather than raising him to be his successor? This is more about the journey of Arthur's development into what he was destined to become than anything else. I don't know how Skeller does it; she's just amazing.

INCEPTION (all Arthur/Eames except #1)
  1. Here In Spain I Am A Spaniard by [livejournal.com profile] soda_and_capes. So. This isn't Arthur/Eames. It's Eames/Yusuf and multiple other pairings I would normally not necessarily read. There's a little unrealized-A/E, but... you know, it's unrealized. But you should read this because it's the most realistic I've seen all these characters written, with their flaws and faults and insights. Arthur in particular.

  2. Maybe You and I Will Fall in Love by [livejournal.com profile] traincar. This is edgy and it hurts; it's sharp and jagged and beautiful. Not a pleasant read, but one that's moving and SO worth it.

  3. Tales From Liberty City by [livejournal.com profile] butterflythread. Delightful, sexy and hot with a real 80s movie atmosphere -- you know, like forbidden and wild and adventurous (and yet somehow without porn)! How does that even happen?

  4. Existentialism on Prom Night by [livejournal.com profile] sometimesalways. OMFG This fic just somehow worked itself into my brain and hasn't left me alone! Arthur and Eames are teenagers in 1996 and GODDAMN it's like she went to high school with me or something. Music plays a big role in this and basically I was having flashbacks of junior and high school throughout. Ah, nostalgia. I won't mention how for a week or two after I read this, my iPhone/playlist consisted of Bush and Jesus and Mary Chain (both featured in the fic) and other examples of post-grunge 90s rock. Ahahaha.

  5. Under the Steinway (series) by [livejournal.com profile] toomuchplor. The series is listed in chronological order, rather than published order, though I prefered having read it in published order. Pianist!Arthur and Baritone!Eames meet in music college. If you don't know anything about music (that is, reading, playing, studying, etc.) -- and I don't -- don't worry, this is still fucking amazing. Descriptions are written in such a way that you get a feel for what's going on even if you don't quite understand. If you do know music, clearly you will have transcended to another level with this fic. The shorter fics that follow take place years later, when they're "grown up".

  6. [livejournal.com profile] whiskyrunner's The Running Play (Part 1 2, 3, 4, part 5 will be the last part). OH GOD THE LOVELY LOVELY ANGST. Footballer!Eames and Serious Student!Arthur are kind of dumb, kind of willing to be oblivious to certain things, and are both in serious denial of some serious stuff) -- basically, very much like teenagers/early 20-somethings can genuinely be (and often are). This fic tackles (oh god, I didn't even mean to make that pun) serious issues and includes noncon and gaybashing. It illustrates a tragic situation that's probably all too real for some.

  7. [livejournal.com profile] skellerbvvt's Rule Ten (WIP, part 111/? but comment-length, and updated daily!). JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. Started out as Arthur/Jailbait!Eames, but as it turned out to have a BDSM slant to it, and Skeller could not in good conscience let a 16-yr old Eames get into an intense BDSM relationship with Arthur without any other supports in his life, this turned into a monster of a WIP. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW AWESOME IT IS TO HAVE SOMEONE WRITING THIS SORT OF BDSM RELATIONSHIP. I AM SUCH A SUCKER FOR ALL THE FUMBLING ATTEMPTS AT COMMUNICATION AND ARTHUR'S GUILTY CONSCIENCE. AND JFC, THEY HAVEN'T EVEN DONE ANYTHING MORE THAN KISS (YET). IT'S SO FUCKING GORGEOUS I CAN'T EVEN TALK ABOUT IT WITHOUT RESORTING TO CAPSLOCK. (SORRY.)

  8. [livejournal.com profile] delires's We Can Do This Until We Pass Out, aka the chav!verse (WIP, part 6/7). Eames is a total chav but Arthur loves it. Yeah, that's basically it. There's plot and it's good, but it's mostly secondary to their relationship and the fact that what they like about each other is how they're so different, and their differences can sometimes be huge points of contention. EAMES SPEAKS SLANG AND IT IS BRILLIANT AND AWESOME AND I WOULD GO AROUND TALKING LIKE THAT IF I WOULDN'T SOUND LIKE AN IDIOT, BRUV. ALSO THIS HAS RENEWED MY (previously mild) INTEREST IN GRIME AND DUBSTEP WTF. I won't mention how I have a playlist called big up the chav on my iTunes (and if you're interested in what's on it I will gladly send you the list/link) and how I may be going to a dubstep event at Terminal 5 next month. =D

And yes, there are a bunch of other fics that have been posted recently (including some big bangs) that I will rec soon! (So you should hurry and read these before I rec again!)

ETA: Link to my playlist and grime/dubstep/indie (hip)hop recs in the comments. If you check it out, please comment, I'd love to know what you think and/or if you have any recs of your own.

Tickets are $10, but they go on sale on Friday at noon, while I'm driving to Toronto. =/

They're homegrown (from Brooklyn) and play "tunes that simultaneously embrace metal, hip-hop, punk and reggae while pushing all of the above into dazzlingly unfamiliar areas."

Anyone want to come with? And yes, that is St. Patty's day.

I can't actually seem to stop listening to Golgotha Tenement Blues by Machines of Loving Grace, from The Crow soundtrack. I've listened to that album a lot over the years, though it's never held my attention as it did the first time I listened to it... except right now? Every song on there is awesome, and Golgotha Tenement Blues by MoLG, and Color Me Once by Violent Femmes in particular are just. so. perfect.

MoLG were only together from 1989 to 1997, so I've only got three albums to listen to, and most of it isn't quite what I want to hear; isn't quite as dark as Golgotha Tenement Blues. Which, sigh.

Hahaha, I didn't realize til just now, but Machines of Loving Grace also have a song (Richest Junkie Still Alive) on the Hackers soundtrack, whaaaat! Argh, I know I'm the only one who cares about this and I'm basically just babbling to myself. UGH. And I should be listening to Rammstein, really, because the concert is in only 1.5 weeks away... and ohmygod it's only 1.5 weeks away! I'm so excited!!!!!

Here, someone listen to this and tell me how much you like it.

  2. maywood-preston's Sherlock/Misfits crossover fanart (via tumblr). Adorable and so true (even though I haven't actually seen Misfits and don't know what it's about. Though I might have to check it out now. Oh, Sherlock.

And. Round 11 of the [livejournal.com profile] inception_kink meme is open. How is it that I still need Inception fic like fucking burning?!

Also, I currently have no music playing. Please suggest something!

#10 was guessed by a friend offline, so only #4 and #5 are left! Do you guys want some hints? I'm kind of surprised no one has gotten #4 yet. Think Guitar Hero 2, people! As for #5... think David Lynch?

The hard part is that there's no guideline with which to pick 10 songs. Sorry, jeez, I think my song picks are all over the place, not quite representative of anything, and possibly not so easy to identify?

  1. Just when everything was making sense.
You took away all my self-confidence.
[That's What I Get by NIN] - [livejournal.com profile] ralphiere

  2. when passion's lost and all the trust is gone,
way too far, for way too long
[World So Cold by Mudvayne] - [livejournal.com profile] badmomma64

  3. you saw me standing by the old
    corner of the main street
[Save a Prayer by Duran Duran] - [livejournal.com profile] windbourne

  4. when he was young you'd not find him doing well in school
his mind would turn unto the waters

  5. funny how secrets travel,
i'd start to believe if I were to bleed

  6. welcome to where time stands still
no one leaves and no one will
[Sanitarium (Welcome Home) by Metallica] - [livejournal.com profile] sharona1x2

  7. tell your children not to walk my way
tell your children not to hear my words
[Mother by Danzig] - [livejournal.com profile] morganwolf

  8. i am alone but adored

...And all of a sudden I'm extremely into the genderbending aspects of this fandom. The best part is that it's CANON. SO FULL OF WIN.

THIS FANART is like, the hottest thing ever, right now.

Basically I've got nothing else of interest to say, other than I'm disgustingly sick and all I want to do is go home and sleep. But also be able to read fic with my eyes closed. It saddens me that should this ever be possible, it probably will not be within my lifetime. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE ME INTO A VAMPIRE OR SOMETHING? I FEEL SO CHEATED. I WOULD BE WILLING TO KILL PEOPLE AND/OR LIVE OFF THEIR BLOOD IN ORDER TO SEE THE FUTURE, OKAY!

Anyway, my laptop is back and I've finally been able to update my iPhone with music and in honor thereof I've downloaded the Bronson and Brick soundtracks. They're SO GOOD! And the Brick soundtrack, in particular, has quite a few tracks which I'll probably be using for the playlist for my housewarming party. WE'RE HAVING ANOTHER VINTAGE HOUSEWARMING PARTY! I'M SO EXCITED! (AND OMG THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE TO INVITE EVERYONE I WANT TO.)

Oh yeah, so if you have any suggestions for music, let me know. It's 1880s-1980s this time.

And BTW, buying the Brick DVD was so worth it. The extras (while unfortunately do not include much of JGL) are really fabulous; the director really goes into detail about his ideas and visions and it's wonderful to hear about all the stuff that goes on before the movie even makes it to pre-production. I'm really fascinated by all that stuff!

The Sword is playing Webster Hall on Sat 10/16 (advance tickets $17.50), WHEN I WILL BE IN CHICAGO. They will be ending their tour IN CHICAGO on Sat 10/23, FOUR DAYS AFTER I LEAVE CHICAGO. WTF!

The Sword will ALSO be playing IN BERLIN on 11/15, you know only A WEEK BEFORE I INTENDED TO BE THERE. They'll be in Koln on 11/23, but that's a 5.5-hour drive from Berlin.

...anyone want to drive with me from Chicago to Cleveland for their Tuesday 10/19 show? I'm actually seriously considering it, since I'd only have to rent a car for the one way and fly back home from Cleveland, since I haven't bought my flights to Chicago yet... it's only a 5.5-hour drive...

ALSO! Primus is on tour (as [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds knows). At least THEY have the decency to be playing Sat 10/9 -- the weekend BEFORE I go to Chicago -- though tickets are $40 and it's at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ. Where the hell is Montclair, NJ anyway?! And if I have to drive, that means I can't drink...

If anyone wants to join in on any part of this, let me know!

So even though I was passed out on the couch at 9pm while watching the Pens vs. Isles game, I went back into the city at 10pm to make the Finntroll show with Liz. A twitter friend (who is full of AWESOME, btw) got us in for free! Which, also, was great, because they weren't worth paying $30 for, definitely. But they were worth two gin & tonics and the privilege of being back in the crowd at a fucking headbangin' metal show! \m/

I didn't exactly forget how much I like being on the outskirts of a mosh pit, but this gave me a visceral reminder. Haven't been to a moshing sort of show in almost a year now, and I MISSED IT OKAY! It's even better when it's not your FAVE BAND EVAR OMG. Because then you don't care about being in the front row to be able to see the band and their interactions, or making cow eyes at them, etc. Instead, it's just the experience of the crowd and the pushing and shoving and EXHILERATION! \o/

No bruises or anything (it was kind of lame because some guys right behind us were being all protective or just not going along with the moshing or something), but I definitely got stepped on the backs of my calves, an elbow to the cheekbone and at some point someone hit my head and my chin went into the back of the (really tall) guy in front of me. FUN TIMES. I did get some sort of scratch on my arm and have no idea how it got there.

SO. This show has srsly whet my appetite for more moshing and we got tix for the Hellyeah show, so I am REALLY EXCITED! Also, Hole is the next day! So I guess I will be super tired/sore that week?

Should I be ashamed to say that at some point (when the music was a bit boring but the crowd was good), I was imagining that I was at a Hard Core Logo concert and Hugh/Joe was singing "Who the Hell Do You Think You Are?"
osaraba: (spn OTP)
Hockey season is coming to an end soon. I went to last night's game vs TOR, and I'm going to tomorrow night's game vs PHI. The game at PHI on Sunday is the last one of the regular season. Even should the Rangers make the playoffs, I doubt they'd go further than the 1st round -- so, the end of April. WHAT WILL I DO UNTIL SEPTEMBER? Unlike some lucky people, I doubt I will be going to the NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles (June 25-26). I'm still going to keep it in mind, but it's not a likely thing.

I am looking forward to Dragon*Con later this year, and have vague ideas for a trip to Vancouver around Thanksgiving. The Vancouver trip may also depend on the Rangers 2010-11 schedule, because if it's at all possible, I'd rather see a Rangers game there than just a random team vs Vancouver. This year, NYR played VAN in early November, so... who knows.

I'm in a serious mood to go for a road trip. Two weeks ago a few of us went to Philly for literally a couple of hours. It was a really nice trip-- did some shopping at the Ikea there and then had lunch at my favorite place in Philly, Monk's Cafe. Of course, it was the drive there and back that was the real point of the trip for me (okay, so maybe the insanely super-spicy chicken wings at Monk's was also part of it) -- and it was really satisfying. Good music, good talk about music, good traffic, good weather.

The weekend after that I ended up driving to New Brunswick and back, which isn't as far as Philly, but a long enough drive to whet my appetite once again. And really, whenever Liz is on a long drive with me, I'm pretty much assured to have either good music, or good talk about music, or both (see above). Our drive back was filled with classic southern rock. An' it was Good: CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Kansas, The Band. Does anyone else have a strong connection between listening to music and driving/riding in a car? It's my favorite place to listen to music, new and old.

It's times like this I wish I just owned a car because I could just go for a drive on a whim. I miss having late-night access to my parents' car; I used to just go for a midnight drive around, whenever I felt like it. Now, of course, I'd have to rent in advance (for a good price), which is just not conducive to whimsical driving trips.

If I could, I'd go to Pittsburgh this weekend for Tekkoshocon. I'm so sad I'm not there this year.

So the new roomie moved in last night. Mark came in from work with the rest of his stuff around midnight. Judy was already sleeping, so we finished up with signing the sublease contract and rent things and then we kinda sat around chatting for like an hour and a half. So at least it's not weird superawkward silence or anything. He seems to be a cool guy, he does sound mixing/recording stuff so I'm kind of hoping I'll get to hear some cool new music I don't yet know about, maybe get some exposure to some interesting local bands (even though he's kinda into, you know, indie rock).

He's not a huge fan of hockey, but he grew up in Syracuse and knows enough about the Sabres to miss Drury! <3 So until further notice, he's cool in my book.

It helps that he's cute, too. =D

In other news, I am extremely pleased that it's Friday. I'm beginning to be torn over the fact that it's so pretty and warm outside and I want to go out... but there's a Rangers game tonight. I think I will compromise by getting out at Roosevelt and walking home from there. Which, really isn't even a mile away, so I feel like it's an insignificant distance, but it will satisfy some of the urge to be outside.

I'm often quite grateful that my place gets a lot of nice light. One of the many things I like about it! So I shall be opening windows and curtains... and I think I should probably change the curtains in my room to the sheer summery ones very soon!

I was talking with Shoobs and another coworker today and Shoobs said something about a place that has good margaritas and an outdoor park area -- which reminded me of last summer at Coney Island and drinking yummy beers at the outside bar on the sand. IT WAS SO NICE. WHO WANTS TO GO TO CONEY ISLAND THIS WEEKEND? I could be persuaded to forgo the NYR game on Saturday night in order to do this!

And, as a side note, I'm almost determined to like Drive-By Truckers and Lucero because. FIC. HOT. YES. (omg thank you [livejournal.com profile] sionnain.) \o/

I'm halfway there with DBT.

Hard Core Logo (1996). A documentary-style movie about a (fictitious) punk band that reunites for a short tour. Not comedy. Extremely awesome movie. Great music. CKR is super hot and Hugh Dillon is such a captivating fucking asshole you can't help liking him just as much as you hate him. I feel so sorry for poor Billiam; he shouldn't have come back. They're so fucked up. Of course, then there wouldn't have been a movie...

...and fic. Oh, the fic. It's twistedly delicious. <3.

So in addition, Hugh Dillon actually fronted his own hard rock band, Headstones, for a good 15 years starting in the late 80s. Great music. Definitely a song or two that I skip over, but overall, good stuff -- and I'm really glad to have come across it. Of course, he's an actor now; not sure what he's doing musically (if anything).

Oddly, I'd really love to have the audio track from this movie. I can just listen to it in the background; it's almost as good as watching it. Happily, you can stream the movie from here.

Men with Brooms (2002). A complete 180 from HCL. A sports movie, which means it's got sports, comedy, romantic interest, etc. About CURLING. (Reading the wikipedia article about curling helps with some of the references.) Light-hearted and genuinely fun to watch, this was an unexpectedly enjoyable experience. And Paul Gross's, Kiss You Til You Weep, a romantic little song used in this film, is quite sweet. D'awwwww.
