It's been forever since I've posted to LJ... and then along with all the other stragglers I decided now would be a good time long past due to finally import my LJ over to DW. I think all my lj-linked pics are probably broken, but I'm trying not to think about that too hard.

So hey.

I miss talking with fandom in this medium, but I also haven't fallen in love with any particular fandom in quite a while and I feel adrift.

Acadia was reading hilarious badfic one-liners to me last night and though I don't remember the line, it started a semi-serious conversation about screaming orgasms. I don't know about you, but screaming orgasms aren't a regular thing, in my experience. Shouting? Much more likely. Keening? Hell yeah. Screaming? Not so much.

Unless we're talking about edging. In which case, SO HOT OMFG. Also, makes sense, right? Thus appropriate.

Okay, so I don't want to dictate what words people can and can't use to describe fictional orgasms, but the use of "screaming" seems to have really lost its meaning.

Does the (over-)use of screaming to describe an orgasm throw you out of a story as much as it does me? Why do you think people use that particular word? Is it because of the unrealistic depiction of sex in the majority of porn? Any other thoughts? I'm curious now.

I want to comment on everyone's posts! I missed you guys so much and I didn't even realize. Sorry, that sounds so shitty of me. =/ But it's been so long since I've been around I feel slightly awkward about it. Like, "Oh hi, yeah, it's been a year and a half since I last exchanged comments with you. Maybe you don't even remember why we friended each other."

So many people on my flist are talking hockey and it's SURREAL. At the risk of sounding like a hipster, I've been into hockey for longer than I've been on LJ, and the relatively recent hockey(RPF)-fandom explosion of the last few years still boggles! It's awesome though, don't get me wrong! It's exciting and I CANNOT FREAKING WAIT TIL SATURDAY! I'll be watching the Kings/Hawks opener with two hockey fandom fangirls at LA Live (next door to the Staples center) -- do I wear my Kings shirt or my Hawks shirt?! And then going back to my place after to watch the NYR/Boston game on NHL Gamecenter Live. CANNOT WAIT.

Sad things happened this week with Pekoe. See previous posts for clarification. I compartmentalize reeeeallly well so I'm doing okay. Other than when I talk about it with my sister Liz or my bff Maryann, it's still sort of unreal. I always have severe delayed reaction with these things, I think. =/

Going to a metal show tomorrow (Friday) night to see Down with some guys I met at a Sword concert back in... November? No, mid-December. Won tickets so I didn't spend money I don't have. Also carpooling so I can DRINK!!! Which is good, because I needed the excuse.

Oops, sorry for the quick ups/downs! I feel like I'm reporting on what I've been doing while away from LJ, as if I have to catch you up on what's passed. Hah, I assume this will change into more organic posting soon enough.

I'm back! I've been meaning to post for a while (I FINALLY GOT A JOB OMG YAY), but I realized it's time for the SEX IS NOT THE ENEMY FICATHON!

I'll have a post up for signups on Thursday. In the meantime, would you mind starting to spread the word? I'd hate for this lovely little fic fest to die out. <3

I've been really concentrating on other things so while I knew it was coming up, I-- I dunno, it still doesn't even seem real to me. I've never been to Seattle before and I wish that I could afford to stay longer, especially since I actually have the TIME to spend there (still jobless, dammit). Alas, it is not to be this time.

BUT GUYS, I AM SOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!

So I know that some of you are going, but if you think I'm not sure about you, drop me a comment! I want to squee about it now and then squee when I see you in person TOMORROW!!! <333

Did you guys know that James McAvoy and Jamie Bell will be costarring in the newest adaptation of an Irvine Welsh novel, Filth? I didn't! But I'm pretty excited for it. I started reading it a few days ago and then stumbled across the fact that principal photography for the movie started in late January and it's scheduled for a 2013 release.

One movie blog called it a "comedic thriller" but... I wonder how comedic it will really be? Like Welsh's other works, it's more disgustingly awful than comedic. And much like the main characters in Welsh's other novels (except for Trainspotting and its sequel, Porno), Robertson (the main character of Filth, played by James McAvoy) is completely unsympathetic, reprehensible, and physically disgusting (all calling back to the work's title), even though he's charismatic and apparently sexy as hell. That particular dichotomy is not at all unusual for a Welsh character.

I'm utterly fascinated by the thought of seeing McAvoy play this role. It's possible a lot of it is toned down for the movie; I wouldn't be surprised if it is, in fact. But even so, the character is morally reprehensible, and... I haven't seen McAvoy in a lot of movies, but I think this is a huge change for him (correct me if I'm wrong). In any case, it'll be a huge change for me to see him in a role like this.

I'm also really curious to see how McAvoy/XMFC fandom will react if they go out and see Filth without really knowing what they're getting into. Unless they tone it down severely, even Trainspotting won't be a good meterstick for Filth.

So I moved out of my apartment on Jan 1st and am now sort of living with my parents and occasionally staying over at friends' places. But then I got sick for like 5 days and that was all at my parents' house. I barely moved from the couch and watched SO many music documentaries, it was kind of the most awesome thing ever. =DDD

You'll be glad to know that Liz and I just settled on the road trip route and itinerary to LA-- which she'll be taking with me!!! I'm so excited to be going on a cross country road trip with my sister, you don't even know! We're both pretty much grinning like idiots over it. Ahahaha, only downside? She never actually learned how to drive. So, there's that.

Whatever, this is the plan for my ROAD TRIPPPPPPP: \m/

NYC > Pittsburgh > Louisville > Memphis > New Orleans > Ft Worth > Albuquerque > Phoenix > LA

If you're somewhere on this route and want to meet up, let me know!!!! =D

---

Aaaand, this is sort of late on my part, but I've been sick and actually without internets except on my phone while at my parents' house--

Please help spread the word: SINTE FICATHON SIGN-UPS are due on SUNDAY!

It's nice, though, to be in a fandom with regular canon updates? Ahahahah, this is mostly very new for me since even in fandoms with canon updates during the TV season, I never actually watch every episode as it airs. So yeah, this is kind of cool? Also, it's MUSIC. I will always flail over music pretty much more than anything else.

Anyway, it's awesome to finally have a HQ acoustic version of Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind). This time it's Dallon and Ian along with Brendon and Spencer, so there's, like, backup vocals and everything!

Here's the AUDIO RIP with, as usual, the intro-talk trimmed out.

osaraba: (merlin &arthur prince&sorcerer)
I somehow stumbled across a fic by [livejournal.com profile] corilannam and then went through the rest of her Merlin fic. She writes really well, and while I think her endings are sometimes a teeny bit abrupt for my taste, they are still absolutely worth reading.
So I'm reccing her story A Tournament of All Magicks because magic-reveal fics are always entertaining, and it's quite exciting to read one where Merlin gets to participate in a tournament and be all badass and show off a bit, you know? There really aren't enough of those.

And while you're there, read Same As It Ever Was too, because it's kind of sad, and I like that kind of stuff. I kind of strongly self-identified with Merlin in this one, so maybe it was just me. Also, this particular trope is a definite standard weakness of mine, so it hit the spot in so many ways.

Anyway, I was poking around and saw this gif of a deleted scene from series 3. AND DAMMIT. I wish they'd leave scenes like that IN.

And then I check flist and see that there is a lovely I ♥ Merlin/Arthur post as well as one where ALL THE ARTHUR/MERLIN VIDS ARE BEING COLLECTED. (I know exactly what I'm doing when I get home from work today!)

My love for this show just grows in leaps and bounds from all the extras the cast and crew provide us; how awesome they all are, how into the show they are themselves; and how wonderful this fandom has been to me even though I'm still pretty much on the outskirts of it, shy/lurker that I am.

I've been really in the mood for sad stuff lately. Is it horrible of me to want a fic where Merlin is always just on the verge of revealing his magic to Arthur, but he doesn't for a long, long time? And he's always pining for Arthur, but Arthur doesn't notice? And yet Arthur completely trusts and relies on Merlin-- and makes this as obvious as day to everyone around? And then there's the magic-reveal, and some angst and recrimination, but Arthur gets over it -- but nothing else changes? And Merlin HAS SO MANY FEELINGS about how much Arthur trusts him, relies on him, cares for him, but not quite the way he wants him to, and so it makes him feel amazingly proud/etc, but it's so painful at the same time? WAIT, I JUST DESCRIBED THE SHOW. *facepalm* (Well, you know... except with the addition of extreme UST/pining/angst and magic-reveal.)

Have I ever mentioned how much I love serial-killer romance? Like, a "normal" person (of clearly questionable morality) romantically involved with a socio/psychopath? Well, I do.

Have I also mentioned how much I love Inception fandom? Because it gives me things like Arthur, the gentleman killer and Eames, the profiler. <333
[livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond's serial-killer WIP: the origin thread.
Or if you want to go direct to the fic:
  1. commentfic: why Arthur will never again go by another name
  2. the part where Arthur "protects" Eames by sabotaging his subway train (in 7 parts)
  3. sequel to the subway fic, involving a tattoo gun (in 3 parts)
  4. sequel fic: wherein Eames is kidnapped by someone not-Arthur (in 5 parts)
  5. future fic: wherein Eames snoops through Arthur's stuff (in 2 parts)

Can I also mention how much it pleases me that this takes place in NYC? I may need to go re-read the Detective Kathy Mallory novels, by Carol O'Connell. I highly recommend this series!!!! O'Connell hasn't come out with a new one in a year or two, but I still have hope because she's done this before (to write stand-alone mystery novels) and then gone back to the Mallory series. BADASS SOCIOPATHIC FEMALE NYPD DETECTIVE: what more could you ask for? Well, I suppose a romance, but considering the level of her sociopathy, I don't know how much it would really work. So basically, she's as awesome as it gets. <3

*

So hey, I've been reading fanfic (off and on) for about 14 years now. And I've got all these new friends, which is lovely! (Hi guys! *waves*) And I've been reccing so much from Inception fandom because the writing is inordinately high-quality and prolific. So I find myself wondering... WHAT DO *YOU GUYS* LIKE TO READ? (Mostly I mean fic-wise, but include any kind of reading you wish!) I'd do a poll but why should I make you put your answers into a little ticky box?

Dear Anon,

I am not the most popular person -- never have been, never will be. I'm not extroverted and I'm mostly quiet and shy, and because I don't contribute to fandom (in the creative sense) very much, I'm pretty much off the radar. I love making new friends, but I'm better at one-on-one connections than diving into group discussions even though I often would love to be part of them.

And all of that is perfectly fine.

To see you mention my name was. Really shocking. And. You made me cry.

Thank you.

<3,
Sara

I know the whole point is anonymity (so no de-anoning necessary) but I really really needed to say this to you.
